A closed structure made of trapezoidal metal sheets divides and connects the 5 rooms on the 2nd floor of Haus Am Waldsee in Berlin. The sound of an ambiguous construction site presses out from within: meticoulously constructed from hundred of recorded and fabricated sounds and ambiences, an orchestration of machines, tools and matter unfolds, suggesting a brooding sense of industry and a complex relationship to architecture.

Some info about the composition:
composed over a 3 month period of intense recording, sound archive building, observing, note taking and arranging, this piece was an opportunity to engage with the full textural, kinetic and dynamic range of the construction site.

Large machines, pneumatic bursts, screeching metal, hammer quartets, welding sparks and fire swells... these fictional scenes unfolds in 13 acts, each relating a different process, a different reckoning with the potential and resistance of materials.

The scenes are assembled from individually recorded single sounds - the click of a ratchet in my studio, the rumble of a large motor in Berlin, a large industrial lift in France, rock fall in the Dolomites, allowing for the sonic construction and assemblage of unlikely processes and mechanisms.
 
As new tracks were added, the project itself took on the shape of a densely sedimented slab of sound (740 tracks in total), each layer a grain in a broader narration, pressing out of a large metallic resonant body, inserted into the heart of a large suburban villa in Berlin.
